If your dryer isn’t starting, or has no power, the issue could be one of 8 possible causes. The first video walks you through the top five causes and how to test each one. Here is a great video that walks you through the top 5 causes (out of 8) for why a dryer won’t start and how to easily test each one.
How to know if your motor is bad: This video will show some ways to easily test your motor.
Related to the motor, your dryer might not be starting because something has gotten lodged in the fan blade and is preventing the motor from running. Common items that we see cause this are pencils and pens. If you are testing your motor and the shaft doesn’t spin freely, you might have something stuck in the fan blade. If this happened, you most likely have also tripped the non-resettable fuse in your dryer as well and will need to be replaced.

How to test the timer when there is no power.
Kenmore Even Heat Dryers Only. Some Kenmore dryers are equipped with a 4″x 6″ circuit board found next to the timer. If your dryer has this it will also have 2 black relays located inside of the control panel as well. One relay goes to the motor and the other goes to the heating element. If you have eliminated all other possible causes for no power, the motor relay might be bad. The easy thing to do is to swap the wires on the two relays. If the motor relay is bad and you swapped the wires, so that now the wires are going to the heater, the motor will start when you press the start button, but you won’t have any heat. The below video is just to show you what the relays look like and where they are located. If the relays are good the issue might be the control board. Refer to the tech manual on which pins you will need to test on your board, with your multimeter, to see if it has failed.
